I was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1964. My father was part of the Fifth Moon Group, an avant-garde collective of abstract painters from Taiwan who exhibited extensively worldwide since the 1950s. Due to his achievements, we were able to immigrate to the US in 1972. We settled in Carmel, an enclave of artists, writers, and poets located on the scenic coast of California. It was among the many art galleries in downtown Carmel that I discovered the world of photography, which prompted me to take photography courses in high school. After high school, I attended UC Davis with the intention of studying zoology but quickly discovered that my strength lay in the arts rather than the sciences. UC Davis boasted a prestigious art studio program, featuring notable artists such as Wayne Thiebaud, Robert Arneson, and Manuel Neri on its faculty. I switched my major to art, and in 1986, I graduated from UC Davis with a BA degree in Art Studio. Wanting to continue my art education, I enrolled at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and graduated in 1989 with a BFA in Illustration. After graduation, I joined Disney Animation Studio as a layout artist. Over my 30+ year career at Disney, I have worked on such films as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Princess and the Frog, and The Lion King as a 2D hand-drawn layout artist, and in recent years, Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, Moana, Paperman, and Encanto as a CG layout artist.
